SARGENT, Arthur Eugene


Black's Mortuary, Show Low, Arizona Arthur Eugene Sargent (September 14, 1920 - June 3, 2010) Arthur Eugene Sargent, 89, of Overgaard, Arizona left this world a better place on June 3rd, 2010. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by those he loved. Gene was a retired mine supervisor and Navy veteran. He is survived by son Arthur Eugene Sargent Jr., daughter Ruthann Hing, son David Pennell, son Vernon White, daughters Cassie Stowe, Loretta White, Gigi Morris, 29 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Gene was born September 14th, 1920 to Earl and Dorris Sargent in Neck City, Missouri the 2nd son of 7 children. Gene joined the Navy in 1944 and in 1946 he was honorably discharged with a presidential commendation for bravery. After the Navy he moved to Arizona where he was the mine superintendent for Magma Copper Mine in Superior, Arizona for 30 years. Gene never retired, but refired and was active in to his 80's. He has been a member of the American Legion 40/8 for 39 years. He is also the author of "Cowboy Cooking" and is considered by his family and friends as one of the last true cowboys. Gene's life may have been taken by cancer, but his legacy will live on forever in his family and friends. Before he passed, he realized he wasn't going to make his 90th birthday, so he set his party for July 31st. He said, "If I’m here, it will be a birthday party, if not it will be a memorial".
