Buddy Gloshay entered into rest June 4, 2005 in Whiteriver.
Buddy was born April 19, 1932 in Whiteriver. His childhood was primarily spent in three places: Forestdale, Show Low and Whiteriver. It was in Fort Apache where he attended Theodore Roosevelt School. In May of 1951, Buddy enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served his country for eight years.
Buddy is a veteran of the "forgotten" Korean War. While in Korea, he served with the eighth army, Second Infantry Division, Third Bn. combat-Korea. He received a number of medals for his service in the Army and was an expert marksman in rifle, grenade and submachine gun. He finished out his military career with the Army Reserves based out of Show Low in 1959.
After his military career, Buddy had a number of occupations. For a number of years he worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs-Roads Department. Buddy also worked for the tribal police department. He was also a Deputy Sheriff of Navajo County. Buddy worked closely with CHR, and various mental health programs. Buddy was also a cowboy at heart. When he was tired of pushing paper, he fell back to being a simple cowboy.
Back in the day, Buddy was known for his superior calf and team roping skills in rodeo circuits throughout the state. Buddy was also an Indian Pro-Rodeo Honorary Gold Card Member. There are many things Buddy has accomplished to make people that knew him all proud, but it will be the simple things that he will be most remembered, which include his love for reading, his love for his junk-mail, his sweets and his naps. He will be surely missed.
Buddy is survived by his wife, Virginia Kessay-Gloshay; son Eddie Gloshay, Jr.; daughter Brenda Gloshay; three brothers, Jerry Gloshay, Sr., Louis Gloshay and Albert Johnson; seven grandchildren: Cedric Alsenay, Tatiana A. Haozous, Eddie Gloshay, Jr., Sundance E. Gloshay, Brent K Billy, Keesha R. Billy and Brandi L. Billy; also numerous extended relatives and friends.
A two night wake will begin Thursday, June 9 at 1 p.m. at his residence in Whiteriver. (Corner of West Willow and N. 2nd Ave.) Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 11 at 1 p.m. at the Whiteriver Assembly of God Church.
Buddy will then be laid to rest at Baagi nant'sd near Forestdale. All tribal dignitaries, gospel speakers and singers are welcome. All veterans far and near that are available are welcome to attend.
