Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, Arizona September 1, 1977 Services will be held at A.L. Moore and Sons in Phoenix at 10:00 a.m. Saturday for Lawton Champie, 74, who died Tuesday in Phoenix. Born at Castle Hot Springs, Arizona, he was a member of the pioneer Champie family who settled in that area in 1886. He was a rancher and championship rodeo cowboy, earning the world championship in the 1920’s. He was a member of the Desert Caballeros Riders, the Wickenburg Elks Lodge and the Arizona Cattle Growers Association. He is survived by his wife Elinore, a daughter, Elizabeth Dudley, three grandchildren, Lawton, Connie and Codie, and t here sisters, Gertrude Walker, Claire Cordes and Emma Stivers. Burial will be in the Champie Cemetery at the Castle Hot Springs. Three will be graveside services
