Letters to the Editor - A Tribute to a lady
The heart of the community was given a great shock with the sudden passing of a great lady Mrs. Kenneth Robeers, known more as “Lil” from the hospital than by her real name. She was loved by everyone whose life she touched. Few people leave such a community wide void with their passing.
With her smile and her “ready wit and humor” she healed more patients than the medicines prescribed. She could be demanding and stern, when needed, but even that was tempered with loving care a devotion to her patients that was unmatched by any other. She spoke the language of love to all in her care. Everyone was a “special case” that called for heart–felt concern.
Her services to others was not confined to just the sick of body; but, the kindness of her soul was expressed to those whose spirits were low and faltering, the grief-stricken and those who needed material aid. Her “purse-strings” were touched many and many times by the needs of others-even to those who meant to keep the promise of repayment. Still, she gave again and again because their need was greater, than hers was her only reason.
Many a person could testify to her generous spirit that gave material things but also gave of the spirit: a shirt for some or a doll for a frightened child.
The community has lost a great humanitarian soul but all will continue to benefit because she has “passed this way” and bestowed the blessing of her presence upon us all. For twelve years she has implanted that devotion to and spirit of duty and compassion into so many hearts as her life touched theirs in this community.
A grateful community has shown its heart as she lay at rest. She who loved flowers and all the beauty of life; she who lived life to the utmost has earned her rest “in the bosom of her God”.
We all thank our God that He has given us the blessing of Knowing “Lil.” May she live in our hearts and memories forever. Name withheld by request.
