Selena Marie Burney, 17, of Tucson died July 2, 2005. She was killed in a tragic accident on her way home from work.
She was born Oct. 30, 1987 in Show Low. Selena was a beautiful vivacious ball of energy. She was full of love and laughter. She was the first female on her junior high football team. She was on the swim team, dance team, and had a full ride scholarship. She had just finished her junior year of high school and classes at Pima College. She planned to be a trauma surgeon.
She is survived by her parents, Sterling and Gloria Ashcroft, of Tucson; father, David L. Burney of Lakeside; grandparents, Alfred M. "Rocky" and Minnie Verdugo of Tucson, and Gary and Linda Cinnamon of Lakeside. She has two brothers Alex Burney and Nicholas Ashcroft of Tucson. She leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles and cousins who adored her.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother Tincia Verdugo and grandfather Larry Burney.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 8 in Tucson. Interment was held in the Holy Hope Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Evergreen Mortuary.
