The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 06/08/2010 Eleanor Russell Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Eleanor Russell slipped peacefully away to join her eternal companion June 3, 2010, at her home in Snowflake. Eleanor was born Aug. 3, 1930, in Murray, Utah and lived in Sandy, Utah until moving to Mesa when she was 12. In 1951 Eleanor married Ralph Edward Russell in the Arizona temple. Eleanor was loved for her gracious and loving service. She worked with the development of the Mesa museum and served as president of the Museum Guild. She was active in the LDS church, serving in many callings, including Young Women's president, Relief Society president, Stake Relief Society president, scribe for her husband in his calling as Stake Patriarch, Temple worker, and as a couple missionary in Germany. She moved to Gilbert in 1991 and to Snowflake in 2007. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph; parents John and Edith Johnson and her older sister Eloise Barkett. Eleanor is survived by two brothers Egon and Kenneth Johnson; two sisters Ejvor Merkley and Elizabeth Pew and six children Keith (Becky) Russell of Mesa, Gale (Moe) Ashcroft Snowflake, Phillip (Tammy) Russell of Arlington, Wash., Linda (Alan) Dewitt of Snowflake, Julie ( Troy ) Beckert of Logan, Utah, Sharon (Colton) Taylor of Snowflake and 34 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Snowflake Stake Center, 175 West 9th Street in Snowflake.
