BULLA, Vance Everett


Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, AZ Wednesday, June 9, 2010 Vance Everett Bulla, 41, of Flagstaff, died in a car accident on Highway 180 on Friday, June 4, 2010. Mr. Bulla was born April 24, 1969, in Wichita, Kan., to Larry D. Bulla and Alice Ann Huslig Scheibmeir. In his youth, he enjoyed playing football and rugby and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a graduate of Trinity High School in Hutchinson, Kan., and became known for his long and winding collegiate path. His college years began at Hutchinson Community College and continued at both Kansas State University and Northern Arizona University. His college career ended at College America where he earned Salutatorian Honors and later became a professor. College agreed with him and a mechanical engineering degree turned into engineering a way to stay in college for as long as possible. He remained forever a student, becoming a jack-of-all-trades. From installing car stereos to testing the security of governmental databases, Mr. Bulla knew a lot about everything. He eventually found a city that could keep up with him and resided in Flagstaff. He was a network systems engineer at North Country HealthCare. In his free time, he was sure to be enjoying good friends, good music and time outdoors. His hobbies included hiking, challenging the status quo and traveling. He had many adventures throughout his life and influenced too many people to list. He will be missed by many friends and his pets, Ponce and Floyd. Mr. Bulla is survived by his parents, Alice and Larry Scheibmeir of South Hutchinson and Larry D. Bulla of Colwich, Kan. Other survivors include his sister, Kerry (Cody) Walters of Dodge City, Kan.; stepbrothers Dennis (Sheila) Scheibmeir of Larned, Kan., Robert (Ceci) Scheibmeir of Wichita and Brian (Patty) Scheibmeir of Frisco, Texas; stepsisters Deborah (Kelly) Hemphill of Wichita and Lisa Scheibmeir of Wichita; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary in Hutchinson. Parish Rosary will be Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in South Hutchinson. Funeral mass will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the church, with Fr. Brian Nelson presiding. Interment will be Friday at 4 p.m. in Fowler Cemetery in Fowler, Kan. Memorials may be made to the Ford County Humane Society or The Hospice Care of Kansas Children's Bereavement Camp in Mr. Bulla's name.
