Howard E. Gillmore, 76, of Show Low and Peoria, died Thursday at Navapache Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Gillmore was born June 1, 1929, at Kalamazoo, Michigan, the son of Clyde and Edith Kline Gillmore. He was raised in Kalamazoo and Chicago and graduated from State High School in Kalamazoo in 1948. He graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelors in Land Management in 1955. He later did masters work at Arizona State University. He was married to the former Jacqueline Follett Aug. 22, 1950, in Kalamazoo.
He came to Arizona in 1967 where he was employed as Assistant Superintendent of Parks and Recreation for Maricopa County for 30 years, retiring in 1995. He was a US Coast Guard veteran and a member of Saint Mary's of the Angels Church in Pinetop.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, of the home; two daughters, Kathy Roberts (Rick) of Peoria; Diane Gassman (Darren) of Las Vegas, Nevada; two sons, Bruce Gillmore (Chris) of Plattenville, Colorado, Brian Gillmore (Kathy) of Phoenix; and one brother Ken Gillmore of St. Ignas, Michigan.
Mass of Christian burial will be recited Thursday, July 21 at 8:30 a.m. at St. Helen's Church in Peoria.
Local arrangements were handled by Black's Mortuary in Show Low.
