Show Low, Arizona ~ 07/29/2005
David Leon Ulibarri, 47, died at White Mountain Regional Medical Center, July 18, 2005. He said goodbye to all his children the night before and his wife, Lucinda stayed by his side until the end.
David was born April 29, 1958 in St. Johns to Ruben and Annie O. Ulibarri. He was an avid outdoor's man and loved camping, hunting and fishing in the White Mountains. While out in the mountains, he became an avid rock hound, as well. He was an excellent cook, but to the dismay of his wife and daughters hated to clean up after himself. However, the good meals he provided more than made up for the mess that ensued.
David loved being a grandpa to his 12 grandchildren and was delighted to learn he had another one on the way. He truly believed he could have skipped having children and just got straight to the grandchildren. They were the joy of his life and he was theirs.
He worked in the logging woods for many years, until the industry shut down in the area. From there he began work in building construction. He was a laborer when the Dome was built and had a hand in the construction of all four new school buildings throughout Round Valley.
His survivors include wife Lucinda Ana Ulibarri, Springerville; sons Frank O. (Tiffany) Nunez, Anthony M. Nunez, Phoenix; daughters Cynthia (Jeremy) Nagengast and Michelle Rios, Minnesota; parents Ruben and Annie Ulibarri; brothers Patrick Ulibarri; sisters Diane Casias, Mary Ellen (Fred) Otero, Springerville, Lisa (Fabian) Leyba, Springerville, Glorial Ulibarri, Linda (Jack) Howell, Colo., Cindy (Coulter) Childress, Queen Creek and 12 grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were Ruby Ann Ulibarri and Danielle Frank.
A Rosary will be said St. Peter's Catholic Church, Springerville, from 7-8 p.m. Friday, July 22. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, July 23 at 10 a.m. He will be interred at the Eastside Catholic Cemetery in St. Johns, immediately following the memorial mass.
