MCDONALD, Garvin P.


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 08/02/2005 Garvin P. McDonald, 83, died July 26, 2005 at Navapache Regional Medical Center in Show Low. He was born in Rosiclare, Illinois where he grew up and attended school, graduating from Rosiclare High School in 1940. Following school he enlisted in the Army. In 1945, while stationed in Portland, Maine, he met and married Harriette B. Edmunds. They initially made their home in Portland until the Army took them to Germany for three years. They then were transferred to many different places during his military career, including Fort Sill, Okla., and Fort Bliss, Texas. He retired from the Army in 1964 and they made their home in Phoenix where he spent the remainder of his life. His family was very important to him and he loved sports, especially basketball where he played semi-professionally. He is survived by his wife, Harriette McDonald of Phoenix; two daughters, Barbara Guffey of Gilbert and Brenda Meeboer of Niceville, Fla.; two sons, Gary McDonald of Chandler and Larry McDonald of Phoenix; one brother, Harvey Kaylor of Altus, Okla.; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
