Daniel Brett Boleware, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dudley Boleware of Wickenburg, was one of six persons who died in a single-engine plane crash near the South Rim of Grand Canyon on Monday, Jan 12.
The plane, en route from Hayward, Calif. to the Grand Canyon, vanished from the radar scope when it was 20 miles east of a Mojave Desert aircraft navigational station.
FAA officials reported that the pilot had asked to descend from 11,000 feet to 7,200 feet because he said the plane was “icing up.”
Also killed in the crash were the pilot, Greg Mathes, 29, San Bruno, Calif.; Michael Bailey, 39, Cambridge, England, and his three sons, John 17, Mark 15, and Matthew, 11.
Brett attended Wickenburg High School his junior year, during which time he was manager of the varsity football team. He attended American Community School in London, England for his senior year, and was on the staff of the yearbook as a photographer.
He graduated in June, 1980.
Brett was attending flight school in Hayward, Calif. preparing for further education and future as an airline pilot.
His brother Mark and sister Sabrina are currently attending Wickenburg High and Garcia Schools in Wickenburg.
Services were held Saturday, Jan 17 at the Calvary Baptist Church of Wickenburg.
