REYES, Leonardo


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 08/05/2005 Leonardo Reyes, 74, died July 27, 2005, in Snowflake. Leonardo was born in El Paso, Texas, and his family moved to Albuquerque, N.M. when he was five years old. He attended school until he was 13, when he dropped out, falsified his date of birth, and joined the Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service he worked numerous jobs before beginning his career as a welder for Local Carpenters Union 1319 in Albuquerque. He married his childhood sweetheart, Margaret Ramirez, in 1950. They were married for 54 years when she passed away. Leonardo is survived by six daughters, Patricia (Robert) Gutierrez, Margaret (Eddie) Sanchez, both of Albuquerque, Georgia Reyes of Snowflake, AZ, Elizabeth Reyes of Albuquerque, Theresa (Pierre) Havre of Virginia, and Sandra S. (Alex) Reyes of Albuquerque; one son, Richard (Geri) Reyes of Albuquerque; one brother, Manuel (Hortencia) Reyes of Elgin, AZ; 10 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and three brothers, Juvenal, Enrique and Salvadore. Memorial services were held Thursday, Aug. 4, with Rosary starting at 8 a.m. and Mass starting at 9 a.m. at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 9502 4th St. NW, Albuquerque, N.M.
