CHAVEZ, Jose Abraham


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 08/05/2005 Jose Abraham Chavez, 70, died Friday, July 29, 2005 at his home in Show Low. He was born and raised in Colorado. In 1954 he married Maria Eledia Lujan. Jose worked as a farmer and heavy equipment operator before moving to Arizona in 1971. They lived in Whiteriver for 25 years where Jose taught school at Seven Mile. He retired in 1978 after a back injury. They then moved to Show Low in June 1996. Jose belonged to Cofradia de nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno in Colorado, he was a member of Fraternity of Secular Franciscans 3rd order, and also a member of St. Rita's Catholic Church in Show Low. Jose is survived by his wife, Maria Eledia Chavez of Show Low; children, Evelyn (Matthew) Kane of Hondah, Arnold (Delta) Chavez of Tulsa, OK, Maria (Pedro) Acosta of Denver, Colo., Carol May (Alfred) Brooks of Lakeside, Jose Chavez, Jr. of New Mexico, Veronica Wilson of Tempe and Lisa Ethelbah of Queen Creek; sister, Rosalie Pottenger; and brother, Jose Anaya both of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 19 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Show Low. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening at Owens Mortuary in Show Low with Rosary at 7 p.m. Interment will be in the Show Low Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to RTA Hospice of the White Mountains, 1789 W. Commerce Dr. Lakeside, AZ 85929.
