TRIMBLE, Lois Clara

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 12/16/2008 "Our beloved one," Lois Clara Trimble, 80, was called home by her Lord Jesus Dec. 9, 2008. Lois was born in Erie, Pa., the daughter of Frederick and Ilse (Bork) Schutte. She attended Kearsage Elementary and Millcreek High School. After graduating from Millcreek, she went to Valparaiso, Ind., attended Valparaiso University and met the love of her life, Glenn Sherwood Trimble. They were married in 1949. Lois earned her bachelor's degree in education in 1950 and began her teaching career as a physical education teacher in Gary, Ind. Lois and Glenn moved back to Erie, and Lois substitute-taught from 1951-1960. In 1961, Lois, Glenn and their three children, Debbie, Geoff and Beckie, moved to Phoenix. Lois taught in Phoenix from 1961-1980. During this time she raised three children, earned her master's degree in special education and taught in the Alhambra School District as a special education teacher. Lois would often have swim parties for her students in her backyard pool at the end of the school year, which brought much joy to her students. After their children were grown, Lois and Glenn moved to Show Low where Lois continued teaching special education from 1980-1989. She started out at Show Low Junior High and eventually taught at Show Low High School and Show Low Primary School. She was an exceptional teacher, a "natural" who touched many, many lives. She was named Teacher of the Year for the Show Low School District, nominated for the Arizona State Teacher of the Year and named Teacher of the Year by the ARC. Once retired, Lois substituted well into her 70s. Everyone was "amazed" at her ability to continue teaching, in addition to learning how to snow ski in her 60s. Skiing became her passion. She even taught her grandchildren how to ski. Gardening was her other passion. Lois would grow a variety of vegetables each summer and can them and/or give them away. She also loved to sew, quilt and cook. She attended Grace Church in Show Low and loved teaching Sunday school. Lois had a pure, genuine, giving and loving heart. She unselfishly met many needs over the years and loved people unconditionally. Her greatest desire was for others to know the love and acceptance of Jesus and for her family to know, love and live for Him. "Mother" was adored by many, touched countless lives and will be missed dearly. She will be treasured in her family's hearts forever. Lois is survived by her children, Debbie Guthier of Show Low, Geoff Trimble of Show Low and Rebecca Suchomel of Gold Canyon; brother Chris Schutte of St. Petersburg, Fla.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; four nieces and nine nephews; and several cousins. Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 19, from 5-7 p.m. at Black's Mortuary, 401 N. 4th Ave., in Show Low.
