PASANELLA, Joseph James (Joe)


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Thursday, July 26, 2007 Joseph James Pasanella, of Cherry, Ariz., passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on July 23, 2007. Joe was born in Hastingson-Hudson, N.Y., on Sept. 16, 1935. The son of Laura and Joseph Pisanelli, Joe was extremely proud of his Italian heritage and upbringing. Joe graduated from New York University, Brockport, with a BS in Education and later obtained a Masters Degree in Special Education from Columbia University. Joe's professional accomplishments include: Director of Special Education for the State of Arizona, Special Education Supervisor for Santa Barbara School District in Santa Barbara, Calif., developer and implementer of the "High Expectation Philosophy" currently used in most nationwide Special Education Pro grams, "Master Plan for Special Education" coordinator for Sanislaus County Department of Education,Education Consultant, President of the Classroom Teachers Association, in Hempstead, N.Y., Grant Writer, Published Author, Special Education Teacher, Public School Teacher and Athletic Coach. Those of us that love him, brag about his: Extraordinary Culinary Skills, his Italian pride, his Senior Olympic Power Lifting Championship at 65 years of age, his incredible athletic abilities, his charity and volunteer works, his service as a Navy Medic in the Korean War and the "Great Genes" he proudly passed - both physically and with consistent verbal reminders - to his kids and grandkids. Joe is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Gloria Melluzzo Pasanella; his son, Doug Pasanella of Phoenix; his daughter, Laurie and her husband, Ed Charbohneau of Oregon; his step-daughter, Suzanne and her husband, John Martin of California; and 10 grandchildren. Joe's son, David Pasanella, and stepson, Robby Cios, are in Heaven, anxious to get a "great meal." Joe is survived by his highly revered siblings, Lillian Paterra, Jim Pasanello, Virginia Mondesando, Amelia Merola, Cele Bonadies and their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Visitation for family and friends will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2007, at the Sunrise Funeral Home, 8167 E. Highway 69 Prescott Valley, Ariz. A Funeral Mass in honor of Joe will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2007 at St. Germaine Catholic Church, 7997 E. Dana Drive, Prescott Valley. A gathering for family and friends will follow the Mass at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe's name to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, P.O.
