Thelo Luellen Tippetts, 87, passed away May 26, 2010 in Lake Havasu City. He was born July 15, 1922, in Benjamin, Utah, to Orlan Alva and Della (Ludlow) Tippets.
Thelo graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1940. He served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1946 and in the United States Air Force from 1948 to 1953 with a rank of Staff Sergeant. He received a Theatre Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged from both the Army and Air Force. He fought in both World War II 1942 to 1945 and the Korean War 1950 to 1953. Thelo worked at Hill Air Force Base as a civilian government Air Force employee and retired from there in 1983.
Thelo belonged to the Moose Lodge and attained the highest Rank of Pilgrim within the Lodge In Utah. He was a National Delegate to many conventions. Thelo also was a member of the Eagles Lodges in Salt Lake City, Lewiston, Idaho, and Clarkston, Wash.
Thelo loved to play golf. He played up to the age of 86. He was a lifetime golfer and played many courses in the western United States. He also loved to fish and spent much time fishing the Snake River in Idaho where he caught some large Steelhead and other trout. His biggest fish was a 17-pound steelhead and he was very proud of that. Thelo was also a very good mechanic and could do many things with cars and other mechanical devices. He really loved his family ties and had a large extended family. He had many good friends, including Ed Cheff, the baseball coach at Lewis Clark State College. Thelo was given a team jacket and hat by Mr. Cheff when he left Lewiston for Arizona.
Thelo was also a very good bowler, and he and Julia were Champion bowlers and had bowled for many years together in Salt Lake City and Lewiston.
Thelo also was involved in throwing darts in competition, and he and Julia went to many dart tournaments in the state competitions. Thelo had many trophies from his dart competitions. Thelo also loved to travel, and he and Julia bought a motorhome and used it to visit many places in the western United States.
Thelo is survived by his wife, Julia Tippetts; daughters, Ordella Buchanan, Naomi Hatch; and adopted daughter, Linda June
Sanderfur; stepson, Gus Hernandez Jr.; stepdaughter, Jean Hawkins; sister-in-law, Ione Tippetts; and nephew, Darnell Tippetts.
He was preceded in death by wife, Guinevere; wife, Leola; son, Larry; brothers, Marvin, Calvin, Royal; and sisters, Verla and Maureen.
Services will be at Memorial Estates in West Jordan, Utah, at a later date.
