LEWIS, Myron H.

Daily Miner, Kingman, AZ June 4, 2010 Myron H. Lewis Myron Lewis passed away quietly at home in Golden Valley on Memorial Day. A resident of Poway, Calif., from 1971 to 2006, Myron was born on June 13, 1921, in Kirtland, Ohio. He graduated from Ohio State University with a masters degree in Sociology. After his graduation, Myron joined the Army and served as a Forward Artillery Observer in Europe during WWII, earning the rank of captain. He married his childhood sweetheart, Jeannette (Silvers), in 1944 and lived a long, happy, fulfilling 60 years with her until she passed away in 2005. Myron worked for the YMCA in Canton, Ohio, and Charleston, W.Va., and most recently San Diego as general director. After he retired in 1981, Myron worked with United Way and later with San Diego Rescue Mission and First United Methodist Church (FUMC) as a fundraiser. Myron used to joke that when he met people, he always had his hand out. In fact, it was he who gave so generously to many family members as well as his church and other favorite organizations, such as Palomar (California) YMCA. Myron was also an author; he wrote the book, "The History of the YMCA of San Diego County." Myron is survived by a son, David Lewis and his wife Janice of Poway, and a daughter, Debra Castiglione and husband Nick of Golden Valley. He had seven grandchildren: Tasha Gutzmer (Chris), Janelle Castiglione, Kimberlee Lewis (José), Heather Montagne (Greg), Nicole (Jimmy), Tony (Savannah), and Darla Castiglione. "GG" left behind four great-grandchildren: Caleb, Bella, Ava and Chance, and one due in September. Myron will be missed greatly by the many whose hearts and lives he touched. A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 7, at First United Methodist Church of San Diego, with a reception following in Linder Hall. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to FUMC of San Diego or Palomar YMCA.
