PAYNE, Mayry

(Maiden Name: Sanborn)

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, August 5, 2007 Mayry Sanborn Payne, 92, a former resident of Prescott, joined her husband Laurence in heaven on July 11, 2007. A celebration of Mayry's life took place in Centennial, Colo. Mayry was born Sept. 4, 1914, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Calvin and Mayry Sanborn. Mayry was raised by her paternal grandparents in Shaker Heights, Ohio, as her mother passed away shortly after her birth. She lived in the city during the school year, but looked forward to weekends and summers at the family farm so she could ride her beloved horse "Nellie Girl." She was fortunate to have traveled with her grandparents to Cuba, Texas and California during her youth. Mayry attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She met and married her sweetheart and lifetime partner Laurence in 1934. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage and had four children, 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Throughout their early years of marriage, Mayry worked in a doctor's office. During their years together, Larry, Mayry and their family resided in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Scotch Plains, NJ., Fox Chapel, Pa., Bamngton, Ill., and Prescott, Ariz. Mayry enjoyed participating in various community activities and organizations wherever she lived. She supported Larry, past president of Prescott Little League, with her commitment to the concession stand fundraising efforts. Mayry was active in Women's Fellowship and other volunteer areas at First Congregational Church. Mayry dedicated many hours to the students at Washington Elementary and Abia Judd Elementary School. She enjoyed the camaraderie and life-long friendships she made through her affiliations with Beta Sigma Phi, B.P.O.E. Elk's Ladies and D.A.R. She took personal pride and pleasure in the projects that she entered in the Yavapai County Fair each year. Mayry and Larry in their later years enjoyed gathering their family together for reunions at Myrtle Beach, S.C. They shared their love of travel, visiting, Japan, Germany, Australia, Switzerland, Austria, Canada, the Panama Canal and throughout the United States. Mayry continued to live in Prescott and stay active in her church and community after her husband passed away. She moved to The Village in Centennial, Colo., in 2003 to be near her daughter Martha and her family. She was the loving mother of Marilynn (Lenny), Chariene, Richard (Jill), Martha (Joseph); fond grandmother to Laura, Michael, Susan, Jay, Jacki, Brian, Melinda, Kyle, Ryan, Kelsey; and special great-grandmother to Sarah, Abby, Christopher, Thomas, Matthew, Sophia, Idan, Jack, Isabella, Angelica and Carson. Mom, Nana, G.G., "Nana Girl," will be fondly remembered for her love, encouragement, home made cheesecake, banana bread, shrimp dinners at the beach, cane ball, "give 'em the shoulder, but don't get hurt," the "grip" and always a "thumbs-up attitude."
