Marsue McFaddin Johnson Haviland died Aug. 10, 2007, on the high seas off the coast of British Vancouver.
Her husband, Col. George P. Haviland, USAF retired, sister, Mary Ross McFaddin Thomas, of Little Rock, and parents preceded her in death.
She was born in Hope,Ark., on July 31, 1935. Her parents were Edward and Matilda McFaddin, of pioneer Arkansas Somerville-McFaddin families, and of Texas Armstrong- McCammon families.
Graduated as valedictorian from Little Rock High School in 1953, she attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi. In 1965, she earned a Ph.D. in the English Renaissance from the University of Arkansas, where she was honored by election to Phi Beta Kappa. For 19 years, she was a member of the English faculty at the University of North Texas, Denton. During that time, she was a one year resident exchange professor at the University of Lodz, Poland. She moved to Prescott, Ariz., 1984.
Her memberships and affiliations included the following: Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Altar Guild at St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
Survivors include son Lt. Col. Milton H. Johnson, USAF retired, and his wife Jackie, of Colorado, and their sons, Sgt. Thomas R. Johnson, USMC, and wife Stephanie; and Benjamin R. Johnson; her daughter Marguerite San Millan and husband Andres of New York and children Ezra, Magda, Ana and Isabel; son and daughter of love, Col. Charles and Kathleen Hale and their daughters Danielle, Kimberly and Margo Hale Scott; staff and commissionees of USAF ROTC Det. 028, 1988-1995.
Memorials may be made in Marsue's name to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 2000 Shepherd's Lane, Prescott, AZ 86301, or to a favorite charity.

A liturgy in thanksgiving for the life of Marsue will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
