NICHOLS - IRELAND, Eunice (Sue)

(Maiden Name: Scott)

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, February 18, 2007 Eunice (Sue) Ireland, age 84, entered into a glorious immortality Feb. 2, 2007. Sue was born Sept. 1, 1922, the second of three daughters to Finley Leroy Scott and Eva Florence (Selover) Scott of Kansas, City, Mo. As a teenager during the Great Depression, Sue became an accordion teacher at the Jenkins Music Company in Kansas City. In 1938 she married Paul A. Nichols and their daughter Patricia (Patty) was born. This marriage ended in 1941. During the war years of the '40s, Sue worked at an aircraft factory in Buffalo, N.Y, as a Plexiglas installer and welder. In 1944, she moved to Long Beach, Calif. Several years passed and she met Stanley H. Ireland when they were both employed at the Southern Venetian Blind Company. They married in 1950, which was a happy union. Becoming Christians, they were very active in the Bethany Baptist Church in Long Beach, Calif. Sue was a member of the choir and assisted her husband Stan as Youth Director of the church. They were also instrumental in building the Bethany Baptist Church in Lakewood, Calif. Sue was a wonderful hostess and a great cook. She was employed at the Bixby Knoll's Party Shop when the owners decided to sell the business. Sue bought it. This enabled her to extend her talents by bringing Wedding Consultant and Catering Services to her firm. The business location was soon opened in downtown Long Beach. In 1958, Sue gave birth to her second daughter, Laura Jean. She sold the business which enabled her to become a full-time mother and homemaker which had been her heart's desire. During this time Sue and Stan found themselves in a church building program with the North Long Beach Brethren Church, which they had been attending for several years. A dream of building their own home became a reality when they moved to Yorba Linda, Calif. There they became active members of a small community. They joined the Yorba Linda Friends Church and again were a vital part of their building program. In 1968, her beloved husband Stan made his transition. Once again she found herself alone with a daughter to raise. She became the chairman of The Christian Women's Club of Placentia-Yorba Linda. At the time of her retirement in 1988, she was employed by American Electric Corp., in Fullerton, Calif. She was a skilled golfer and a trophy winning bowler. Her trips to Prescott, Ariz., to visit her daughter, Patty, and son-in-law, Bob, caused her to feel that Prescott was where she now belonged. In 1993 she took up residence in Prescott. The Prescott Community Church became her choice where she became a devoted member delivering Friendship Bread to first-time attendees. She loved this church. Sue's family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the owners and staff of Patrick Haven for special care and love they extended to her. It was there at Patrick Haven that she made her transition. Hospice Family Care assisted Sue's final week here on earth. The family also recognizes the caregivers at Pinecrest Adult Care Home who continued sharing their love and care after she left that facility. Sue is survived by her daughter Patty (Bob) Dennis of Prescott, Ariz.; step-son Gary Wheaton; step-daughter Kathleen Magnum; sister Jane Hellman; grandson Steven Dennis; granddaughters Jennifer Guilherme, Ashley Hill and Brittnay Schaffer; step-grandchildren Janice (Dennis) Rounds, Nancy (Dennis), Boyette, (Wheaton) Bronkey, Craig Wheaton, Lauren Magnum and Blake Magnum; nephews William Geyer and Mike Hellman; and nieces Kim Hellman, Robin Hester and April Parson.
