HOLT, William Roy


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 10/14/2005 William Roy Holt went home to be with the Lord Oct. 5, 2005. He was born Nov. 7, 1912, in Shawnee, Okla., to William Andrew and Minnie Ann Holt. Roy met and married Ferne Booher in 1937. They were married for 66 years. Roy and Ferne enjoyed singing together, playing games and vacationing with friends and family. Roy served overseas during WWII, came home to manage a department store for ten years, and then moved to Lubbock, Texas, where he owned and operated Holt's Family Shoes. Roy and Ferne moved to Mesa in 1967, where Roy sold homes for Sun Valley Mobile Homes. They retired and moved to Show Low in 1996. Roy was known for his outgoing, friendly personality, his love for his family, and his love of fishing. He was quite a handyman, building and fixing things for his friends and family. He was man committed to his Savior, Jesus Christ, and served faithfully in his church. Roy Holt will long be remembered for the gregarious way in which he greeted people, as though the world were full only of friends whose hand he hadn't yet shaken. He was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters, his precious daughter Patricia Sue, and his beloved wife Ferne. He is survived by his daughter Anita Edwards; four granddaughters, Patti Sennette of Phoenix, Pam Krahwinkel of Knoxville, Tenn., Noelle Culbertson of Peoria, and Holly Carmichael of Los Gatos, Calif.; and ten great grandchildren.
