PINT,
Norma (Norm) Lee
The White Mountain Independent,
Show Low, Arizona ~ 10/28/2005
Norman Lee Pint, died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005 as the result of a car accident outside of Heber, traveling to do the thing he loved the most, hunt.
Norm was born in the small Iowa town of Raymond Nov. 24, 1937. He grew up in a catholic family and had an idyllic childhood of baseball games and hunting deer in the cornfields that surrounded the town.
In 1962, Norm married Shirley and they were together 43 years. Together, they built an indoor archery lanes that attracted attention from all over the United States with it's innovative techniques. They had a son, Shane, and eventually moved to the White Mountains of Arizona in the late 60s. They were some of the first people to buy land and start businesses in the area. Before long, Norm and Shirley had a daughter, Katrinna.
Norm went into construction with his father-in-law, and together, they built Arrowhead Custom Homes, the construction company that is still in operation today. Norm has built hundreds of homes in the Pinetop Country Club over the years, and eventually expanded the business to take on commercial work.
But what Norm was really known for was his hunting. Norm looked at hunting as what he liked to spend the majority of his time on, and everything else was just filling in. He was one of the founders of the White Mountain Bow hunters Association, and helped with the creation of the Arizona Bow hunters Association. He has been closely tied to both or organizations for over 20 years.
When not hunting, Norm enjoyed teaching children about bow hunting, and was one of the instructors for the bow hunting safety course. He invented the Hyper Hot elk call and was featured in the hunting video, Real Vocal Elk. In the 1960s, he helped revolutionize arrow rests by inventing the Berger" button which was the forerunner of the "cushion plunger" arrowrest. Norm also invented the sport of Aerial Archery and was the world champion for five consecutive years.
Norman is survived by his wife, Shirley Pint; son Shane Pint; daughter Katrinna Pint; mother-in-law Dorothy Schlie; and his two brothers Raymond Pint and Gene Pint of Raymond, Iowa; sister Rosemary Pint of Wheaton, Illinois; and his mother, Margaret Pint of Cedar Falls, Iowa. His puppy Misty is missing him already.
He was preceded in death by his father Harold Pint, and older brother Ronald Pint.
A Rosary will be held Friday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. at St. Rita's Catholic Church, and funeral mass at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29.
