Erma Bertha "Dettling" Bertke Frerichs died Oct. 24, 2005 at her home in Lake Havasu City.
Erma was born Feb. 8, 1915 in Michigan. She was married to Roy Scott Bertke (1934-1965) and to Carl Leonard Frerichs (1973-1992), now both deceased. She lived in Chelsea, Mich. until 1963, when she moved to Tucson. She lived in Pinetop until 1983 when she moved to Lake Havasu City until her death.
She was employed by the Chelsea School District as secretary to the principal of South Elementary School and also the principal of Chelsea High School until moving to Tucson where she was employed by the Flowing Wells School District as manager of the high school bookstore. She was a former member of St. Paul's UCC in Chelsea, Mich., Rincon Congregational Church in Tucson, Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakeside and current member of Our Saviour Evangelical Lutheran in Lake Havasu City.
She enjoyed her many church activities and committees on which she served so faithfully. Her former and current church families were very important to her. Her prayer life was very important to her and she touched many with the examples she set. She enjoyed being able to attend family reunions in both Michigan and Nevada, and always looked forward to spending time with her family.
She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
She is survived by son, David (Phyllis) Bertke of Charlotte, N.C.; and daughters, Barbara (Carl) Byrum of Jackson, Mich. and Marcia Westerbeke of Lake Havasu City; grandchildren, Heather Bertke of Ann Arbor, Mich., Jeffrey Trolz and Angela Trolz of Jackson, Mich. and Terry (Tonya) Trolz of Lake City Mich., Ensign Adriana (Brandon) Montoya USN of San Diego, Calif., Christina Westerbeke of Lake Havasu City, Scott Blonston of Charlotte, N.C. and Nancy (Mark) Goodman of Lakewood, Colo. and great-grandson, Lauren Trolz and Nicholas Trolz of Lake City, Mich. and Gabriel Goodman and Jordan Goodman of Lakewood, Colo. She is also survived by stepsons, Dean Frerichs of N.Y. and Gary Frerichs of Calif. and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006 at St. John's UCC at 801 S. Mechanic St., Jackson, Mich. and burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Freedom Township, Washtenaw County, Manchester, Mich.
