Albert Bighorse, 84, of Cameron, died Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at Flagstaff Medical Center. He was born April 15, 1926, to the late Dan Bighorse and the late Agnes Robbins Bighorse of Cameron.
He was born and raised in the Gray Mountain/Cameron area. He was known and respected for his knowledge of ceremonial procedures and his love for ceremonial singing and traditional songs.
Mr. Bighorse was a rancher of cattle, sheep and horses. He also loved to farm at the family plot in Willow Springs, where he passed on his stories of the past, laughed and visited with family and friends.
He was a special man. He had a good heart. He will be missed, but his teachings and memory will live on in our hearts forever.
He is survived by eight children: Floyd (Darlena) Bighorse, Rose Bighorse, Katherine Rivers, Robert Bighorse, Elsie (Victor) Shorty, Polly Bighorse, James Bighorse and Donald Bighorse; 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Carl Bighorse, and four sisters, Louise (Hugo) Singer-Boone, Mary Knight-Yazzie, Lillie Curley and Betty Ann Jim.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Herbert Betoney and Marie Donald, sons Allen Bighorse and Alex Bighorse, and daughter Louise Robbins.
Funeral services will be at the Cameron LDS Church on Monday, June 21, and followed by a gravesite ceremony at the Tappin Wash Cemetery.
Desert Memorial Mortuary is in charge of services.
