Woodrow Wilson Allen went home to be with the Lord Dec. 1, 2005 in Payson.
He was born Dec. 28, 1914 in Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania to Don and Mary Iva Allen.
He attended Conneaut Lake schools and graduated from Meadville High School. After graduation he worked for Talon Zipper Co. in Meadville. A short time later, he acquired two dump trucks and did some road work for the Pennsylvania State Department of Transportation. At the age of 23 "Woody" started his own construction company, W.W. Allen Construction. He specialized in road and bridge work. He was the youngest contractor to be awarded a contract by the state of Pennsylvania at that time.
In 1938, he met the love of his life, Hazel Edna Hawley, and they were married just four months later. They raised their four children in Conneaut Lake, Penn. for 22 years, then moved to Phoenix in 1960. He went to real estate school and in 1964 got his brokers license and operated his own office, Woody Allen Realty in Scottsdale. When their children were grown, Hazel got her license and they worked side by side in the office until they retired in 1984. In August 2005, they moved from Scottsdale to Payson to be closer to family.
Woodrow was preceded in death by his father and mother, brothers, Harold and Lawrence and sisters, Dorothy, Virginia, and Helen. He was also preceded in death by his eldest daughter Nancy (Allen) Day.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Hazel Hawley Allen; sons, Wilson Allen of Show Low and Gary (Marcia) Allen of Payson; a daughter, Elizabeth (Mark) Gill of Wright, Wyo. He enjoyed his nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
