MCMENEMY, William Alexander

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 12/09/2005 William A. McMenemy went home to be with the Lord at RTA Hospice in Lakeside Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005, at the age of 95. He was born Nov. 19, 1910, in Merced, California, to the late William A. and Lulu E. (Guest) McMenemy. William was a graduate of Strathmore High School, outside of Merced, Calif. where he later attended college. He worked as a draftsman and supervisor for Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, Calif. during WWII and through the Korean War. William then spent two years in Thailand as a construction foreman overseeing the construction of much needed roadways. When he returned from Thailand he worked as a heavy equipment sales representative until his retirement. William was married to Shirley Mae Moss from 1949 to 1961. He later married Geraldine Taylor in 1963. Throughout his long life William loved the mountains and in his younger years spent many vacations with his parents at Yosemite National Park; and, being so close to his father, insisted that everyone call him "Little Bill." In his later years he enjoyed playing cribbage with his friends and having good conversation at the local coffee shops. He recently moved to Lakeside from Tennessee to be near his son, Bill, and daughter-in-law, Vivian. William is survived by his wife of 42 years, Geraldine McMenemy of Bells, Tenn.; sons, William A. "Bill" McMenemy, III. (Vivian) of Lakeside, and Michael C. McMenemy (Debbie) of Santa Cruz, Calif. Private family services will be held at a later date.
