Louella Herbella, 87, died Dec. 16, 2005 at Hospice of the Valley in Mesa.
Louella was born Jan. 7, 1918 in Burnt Prairie, Illinois, to James Robert and Ruth Veda (Smith) Jones. When she was a toddler, her family moved to Phoenix where she was raised, attended school, and worked. She loved bowling and was on a bowling team for many years.
She married Charley Herbella Sept. 19, 1950, and together they owned and operated Herbella's Market in Springerville, where Louella frequently greeted regular customers at the door. Louella's personality was undoubtedly one of the keys to the success of the family business. After retirement, Charley and Louella enjoyed their days together going for walks (hand-in-hand), golfing, vacationing, and playing with their grandchildren.
She was an active member of the hospital auxiliary, and various other groups in the community. She enjoyed socializing with friends and playing bridge. She will be remembered for her lively sense of humor and quick smile.
Louella is survived by her son, Gary Herbella (Cindy) of Denver, Colorado; daughters Marsha Herbella of Lakeside, and Debbie Hooper (Steve) of Red Hill, New Mexico; grandchildren Shawn Herbella, Shane Herbella, Katalina Aragon, Crystal Contreras, Alyssa Contreras, Kim Lomas-McCue, Monica Fernandez, Nikki Hancock; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charley; daughter, Loralie Maggs; brother, Carter Jones; and sister, Edna Parker.
A Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Springerville. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7 also at St. Peter's Catholic Church.
