VAN SLYCK, Mary Margaret


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 12/30/2005 Mary Margaret Cosgrove Van Slyck, 87, of Scottsdale, Arizona, entered into Heaven on December 23, 2005. Born on October 3, 1918, in Topeka, Kansas, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Willard. The great-granddaughter of Kansas pioneer John Doran, Mary was a graduate of Kansas University in Lawrence, Kan., and Katie Gibbs in Boston, Mass. She was a life long member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, the Junior League and PEO. She volunteered as a Candy Striper, worked as an aide during World War II and as a legal secretary before undertaking her successful career as a wife and homemaker. Mary was a facilitator of the Barrister's Biddies at the University of Arizona College of Law and enjoyed playing bridge and golf. Her love affair with Pinetop, Arizona, began in 1967 and continued until her death. She is survived by her son Tom (Ann), daughter Nancy (Don Holt) and daughter Susan (Cal Jones), grandson Parker Jones and 11 nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 28 at Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary, 8555 E. Pinnacle Peak Road, Scottsdale, at 10 a.m. with a reception following at the Classic Residence by Hyatt at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be on Thursday in Tucson for family members, with a reception following at 2 p.m. at Tucson Country Club.
