Elizabeth Jewell Williams Reidhead, 94, of Roosevelt, died Dec. 24, 2005 at the Uintah Care Center in Vernal.
She was born March 24, 1911 in Jumbo, Oklahoma to Henry Clay and Carrie Alice Davis Williams. At the age 8, her family sold their sawmill in Oklahoma and moved to Burton. They traveled by covered wagon and Jewell walked all the way. The trip took a year as her father would work along the way. She married Joseph Arthur Reidhead in Gallup, New Mexico and their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple June 21, 1963; he died May 27, 1985. She and Joseph moved to Roosevelt May of 1944 where they have reared their family.
She enjoyed all types of hand work, and was an avid reader. Her flowers and garden always flourished from her devoted hard work and love for them. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker and would make bread often and have it hot out of the oven as the children came home from school, and she always had cookies for the grandchildren. She was an active member of the LDS Church and lived her religion. She served in the Primary for about 27 years and especially loved teaching boys and working with them as young scouts. She was also in the Primary Presidency, Stake Relief Society in-services leader and loved attending the temple. She was also an active participant in the Republican party for many years.
Jewell is survived by eight children; Joe Arlen (Billie) Reidhead, Show Low; Pattie Lou (Sam) Burdick, Roosevelt; Billie Lorene (Robert) Alexander, Altamont; Teddie Jewell (Joe) Evans, Vernal; Jimmie Neil (Jean) Reidhead, Bennett; Tommie Edward (Joan) Reidhead, Roosevelt; Van Arthur (Mary) Reidhead, McAllen, Texas; Margaret Alice (Gary) Overbaugh, Hiland, Utah; 41 grandchildren, 82 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
