The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 01/06/2006 Dorothy B Highbaugh, 82 years young, surrounded by those who cherished her dearly passed from this world into paradise Dec. 27, 2005. Dorothy was born Dec. 22, 1923 in Anderson, Indiana, to Charles and Hazel Barrett. She was the last surviving member of the "Chummy Chatter Euchre Club," which originated at Central Avenue Kindergarten Mothers Club in the early 1930s. She graduated from Anderson High School in 1941 and Anderson Business College. Dorothy married Whitt Highbaugh in 1945. They moved to Lakeside, Arizona in 1963. She worked for Navapache Hospital as a Senior Admitting Receptionist from 1978 to 1987 and later volunteered with the Hospital Auxiliary. Dorothy loved to play cards. She loved orchids, bird watching, basketball, baseball, playing cards, Mexican food, nickel slots, Blue Ridge football, fishing with Harley, playing cards, the White Mountains, QVC shopping, watching movies, dachshunds, The Gaithers, and See's chocolate truffles. Did we mention she loved to play cards? She was also well renowned for the decadent rum cakes she baked for her loved ones' birthdays and Christmas. Dorothy was a loving accepting soul, who would never pass judgment on anyone. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones and everyone who knew her. She is survived by her companion of 20 years Harley Hobart, son Whitt Highbaugh (fiancée Kimberly) of Lakeside and Taylor, daughter Jane (Dennis) Hobart-Kahler of Show Low, daughter Ruth Chavez of Mesa, son Harry Hobart of Show Low, daughter Susan (Pete) Schroder of Show Low, daughter Linda Hobart of Mesa and daughter Betty Jean Morrison of Traverse City, Michigan. Grandchildren include Jeremy (Rashelle) Highbaugh of Globe, Lorraine (Dennis) Mason of Show Low, Brandy Miller of Mesa, Sheri (David) Jones of Raleigh, North Carolina, Shannon Chavez of Chandler, Jesica (fiancé Steven) Chavez of Mesa, Michael (Marissa) Chavez of Chandler, Jennifer Hobart of Show Low, Harley Hobart of Phoenix, Misty Hobart of Show Low, Erika Garcia of Show Low, Gina Garcia of Lakeside, Baylee Schroder of Show Low, Hilary Hobart of Tempe. Great-grandchildren Justyne and Aubrey Mason, Cody, Brighton, and Cadon Jones, Ryan Miller, Jaxon and Isabella Jones, Mikhala Hobart, Amara Davis and Faith Watson, Frankie and Vanesa Bulnes, Jada and Amelia Ramirez. Extended family includes: Larry and Serena Fernau, Lola Jaramillo, Evelyn Hall, Estella Sample, and Lilianna Rodriquez. Memorial services are being conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7 at Owens Mortuary in Show Low.
