Maurice (Mike) Scott, 84, a longtime resident of The Ranch in Prescott, Ariz., passed away peacefully on June 12, 2010. Mike was born in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, on Dec. 12, 1925, the son of Floella and Clarence Scott.
Mike was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving from February 1944 to January 1946 in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Afterwards, Mike attended Wayne University in Detroit, Mich., continuing on at the University of California in Berkley, Calif.
Mike was most proud of his 35-year international career with the Kellogg Company of Battle Creek, Mich., that took him all over the world. For 2-1/2 years, Mike and his family lived in the United Kingdom and enjoyed travels all over Europe. Mike retired in 1987 as Kellogg's Corporate Director of Quality Assurance.
Throughout the years, Mike took great pride in personalizing various family homes through his skill with wood and masonry. His craftsmanship and attention to detail were made evident in backyard meccas, new kitchens, remodeling and building homes for his family, in addition to the odd palatial doghouse for man's proverbial best friend.
After being an active committee member of the St. Luke's Methodist Church in Omaha, Neb., Mike continued his faith and affiliation with the Prescott United Methodist Church. Mike was a volunteer with Prescott's "People Who Care" as Chairman of the Finance Committee and President of the Administration Committee. For over 15 years, Mike was an active member of the Pendleton Center YRMC.
Surviving Mike is his beloved wife Joyce of over 65 years. They married in October 1944 and shared a wonderful and full life together since. Also surviving are their four daughters and families, Cheryl and Terry Dougherty, Judy and Bob Parker, Patty and Jan Stoerkel, Cindy and Kevin Lunau; five grandchildren, Tiffany Ayraud, Jennifer Gallivan, Ashley Parker, Hillari Parker and Michael Cairns; five great-grandchildren; Mike's sister Ardene Nealey; and brother James Scott.
A celebration of Mike's life will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, at the Prescott Methodist Church, 505 W, Gurley St., Prescott. Followed by a graveside memorial service at the Prescott National Cemetery.
The family suggests contributions be made in memory of Maurice "Mike" Scott to YRMC Pendleton Center, Attn: YRMC Foundation, 1003 Willow Creek Road, Prescott, AZ 86303.
