HENWOOD, Ernest Lee

Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, Arizona Published Thursday, September 17, 2009 Ernest Lee Henwood, 80, passed away on Sept. 2, 2009, in Lake Havasu City. He was born on June 27, 1929, in Livingston, Mont., to Hobson and Pearl (Kenworthy) Henwood. Ernie enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Aug. 8, 1946. He served on the USS Bayfield, stationed in Guam, and was honorably discharged almost four years later on June 29, 1950. Ernie and his wife Johanna moved to Lake Havasu City 15 years ago from Livermore, Calif., where he worked as a plumber for Local 342 out of Concord, Calif. In his younger years, Ernie enjoyed riding horses, going on weeklong treks. Ernie then became interested in the two-wheel transportation and was an 18-year member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. Following retirement in 1987, Ernie and his wife Johanna took off on an 8,000-mile motorcycle trip, going wherever the road took them. He also enjoyed traveling around the United States in their motor home. Ernie loved the outdoors, but what Ernie enjoyed the most was family get-togethers — to Ernie, the more, the better. Ernie is survived by his wife, Johanna, of Lake Havasu City; sons, Bryan Henwood, of Payson, Kevin Henwood, of San Bernardino, Calif., Brad Henwood, of Fremont, Calif., and Brett McCain, of Illinois; daughter, Bonnie Richmond, of Auburn, Ill.; brothers, Don Henwood, of Kingman, Bill Henwood, Dale Henwood, Tom Henwood and Mike Henwood, all of Helena, Mont., Ed Henwood of Tennessee; sisters, Darlene Barney, of Tennessee, Virginia Hewitt, of Ogden, Utah, Sylvia Bailey, of Clancy, Mont., Patty Frederick, of Helena, Mont., and Barbara Jenkins, of Townsend, Mont.; as well as eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, George, Dick and Gary and his daughter, Susan Grossner. Ernie’s friends are invited to join the family at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Rotary Park, Ramada C.
