MEADORS, Robert Arthur, Jr.


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 01/17/2006 Robert Arthur Meadors, Jr., 76, former resident of Forest Grove, Montana died Wednesday morning, Jan. 11, 2006 at Custer Colonial Manor in Custer, S.D. due to Pick's Disease. Robert was born July 1, 1929 at Novary, Montana to Robert and Irene (Hopke) Meadors, Sr. He received his schooling at Fairview Community School near Forest Grove, Mont. and graduated from Fergus High School in Lewistown in 1947. He went on to take several work related continuing education classes. On Dec. 2, 1951 at Lewistown he was united in marriage to Verlie May Schenck. He operated the family ranch near Forest Grove until 1968 when they moved to Moab, Utah where he worked in a potash mine. In 1971, they moved to Show Low, where he began employment with the Centel Telephone Company, retiring in 1990. They remained in Arizona until 1998 when they moved to Rapid City, S.D., where they currently resided. He was a member of the Lewistown Eagles Club and the Toastmasters in Moab, Utah. Humorous speech contests were his favorite; he was a very humorous storyteller and won several competitions while a member of the Toastmasters. Robert is survived by his wife, Verlie May (Schenck) Meadors of Rapid City, S.D.; three daughters, Mary Kay (Richard) Mewhinney of Cottonwood, Cheryl (Lawrence) Huber of Sparks, Nev., and Anna Jane Meadors of Rapid City, SD; two sons, Timothy (Tamara) Meadors of Rapid City, S.D. and Daniel R. (Donna) Meadors of Durango, Colo. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by two sisters, Carol Kinkelaar of Hilger, Mont. and Ruth Nelson of LaFayette, La.; and a brother, Allen (Kathy) Meadors of Great Falls, Mont. Additional survivors include a sister-in-law, Emily Schenck of Lewistown and her children, Mike (Donna) Schenck of Lewistown, Kris (Dan) Frank of Lewistown, Kathy (Jerry) Hall of Billings, several nieces and nephews; and close friends, Dick and Rosemary Koch of Lewistown and Katherine Johnson of Lewistown. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, a sister, and a brother-in-law. A memorial service for Robert A. Meadors, Jr., will be at the Creel Funeral Chapel in Lewistown, Montana Saturday, Jan. 14 at 10 a.m. Internment will be at the Lewistown City Cemetery. Memorials to Leader Dogs School, P.O. Box 5000, Rochester, MI 48307 are preferred. Creel Funeral Home of Lewistown, Montana is in charge of arrangements.
