MAENNCHE, Maude Marie

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 02/17/2006 Maude Marie Maennche Marie Maennche, 93, died Feb. 14, 2006 at RTA Hospice and Palliative Care in Lakeside. She was born Sept. 23, 1912 in St. Johns to the late Jesse and Maude (Jarvis) DeWitt and was raised in Woodruff. She is a great-granddaughter to Jesse N. Smith and granddaughter to Able Alexander DeWitt, an early pioneer in Northern Arizona. She attended high school in Snowflake. Marie married John F. Maennche June 4, 1934 in Holbrook and their marriage was later solemnized in the Mesa Arizona Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her large family. Marie was bitten by the "Genealogy Bug" in the 1950s and that past-time kept her busy with her family history research the past 50 plus years. Marie is survived by four sons, Jerry D. (Joyce) Maennche of Springfield, Georgia, Larry W. (Christina) Maennche of St. Johns, Alan Luther (Sandy) Maennche of Safford and John F. Maennche, Jr. of Snowflake; one daughter Stacie L. (Steve) Motley of Phoenix; 19 Grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Sue (Kent) Palmer of Taylor and two brothers, Waldo (Nancy) DeWitt of Mesa and Carlyle DeWitt of Holbrook. She was preceded in death by two daughters Shirley Marie Chlarson and Cora Helen Angle, five brothers, Kenneth M. DeWitt, Malcolm DeWitt, Wendel DeWitt, Heber J. "Reeves" DeWitt and Jesse DeWitt and one sister, Margaret Harris. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday Feb. 20 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Snowflake Pioneer Park Chapel with a visitation one hour prior to services at the church and from 6-8 p.m. Sunday Feb. l9 at Owens Mortuary in Snowflake. Burial will be in the Woodruff cemetery. Owens Mortuary of Snowflake handled arrangements.
