ABLES, Billy Mason


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 02/17/2006 Billy Mason Ables, 81, died Feb. 11, 2006 at his home in Snowflake. He was born July 5, 1924 in Marion, Alabama to John Ezra and Mamie Mae Ables. He was an Army-Air Corps Veteran of WWII. After the service, in 1947, he began his paper making career, working in several states and Venezuela. He settled in Snowflake in 1961 and was a Foreman at Southwest Forest Industries for 20 years. He finished his paper making career in 1982 and opened his own business, Bill's Machine Shop in Show Low where he was able to work with his son, Ken, for more than 22 years. Billy enjoyed the outdoors and especially boating and fishing with his grandsons. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife throughout the United States. Billy is survived by his wife, Fay E. Ables of Snowflake; one daughter, Katherine (David) Lovelady of Tyler, TX; one son, Ken (Karen) Ables of Taylor, five grandsons, Jake Lovelady and Michael Lovelady both of Tyler, TX, David Glover of Tampa, FL, Scott Ables of Phoenix and Richard Ables of Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Johnny, Marshall, Leroy, and Sam. Funeral services were held Feb. 16 at the First Assembly of God Church in Holbrook. Internment was held at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Tyler, Texas. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to RTA Hospice and Palliative Care, 1789 W. Commerce Dr., Lakeside, AZ 85929.
