AMBOS, Arnold M. (Fuzzy)


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 02/21/2006 Arnold M. "Fuzzy" Ambos, 88, died Feb. 19, 2006 at the CVC Hospital in Globe. He was born Feb. 27, 1917 in Dawson, N.M. to Arnold A. and Jean (nee McLachland) Ambos. He graduated from MHS in 1935, attended University of Alabama and University of Arizona, before serving his country in the Army in Panama (Bushmasters Division) and the South Pacific in WWII. He was recalled to service in Korea where he was awarded the Purple Heart and retired from active duty. He returned to his wife, who in his absence, had filled his position as Gila County Superior Court Clerk. He climbed the three flights to his office in the Old Gila County Courthouse, with the aid of a leg brace and crutches. He moved into the new courthouse in 1976 until his retirement in 1979. He had served as clerk for 26 years. In his retirement, Fuzzy and Dona spent summers in their home at Pinetop Country Club where he served two terms as President of Pinetop Country Club. He loved crossword puzzles, golf, fishing, cards and greenhouse gardening. Oh those tomatoes! He is survived by his daughters, Margaret A. Buss, Susan B. Arthur (Steve), Dona "Ded" D. Cooper (Eddie); and son, Arnold L. Ambos and Sherron Lavin; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister Elizabeth Betty Ray of Phoenix. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Dona B. (nee Brown) Ambos, who was waiting for him to join her. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21 at the Lamont Mortuary Chapel in Globe, with visitation to be held that same day from 1-2:30 p.m. Lamont Mortuary of Globe handled arrangements.
