Richard Phil Shumway, lovingly known as Turk, died Feb. 17, 2006 in Payson. He was 62.
He was born and raised in St. Johns, spending his summers at the family saw mill in New Mexico. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a two-year mission for the church in Florida. He served faithfully in many capacities, including Young Mens President Elders Quorum President, Bishopric, and the High Council. He especially loved working with youth. One of his greatest qualities was his capacity to love and his generosity knew no bounds. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He loved to travel and see the world.
He is survived by his wife, Clarice Kaye; sons Rick, Roger and Jeff; and 10 grandchildren; brothers Douglas of Guatemala, Mark of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Monroe of Salt Lake also.
A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24 at Messinger Payson Funeral Home, 302 W. Aero Drive, Payson and at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 913 S. Ponderosa in Payson. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m.
Interment will be at the Mountain Meadows Memorial Park.
At the family's request, any memorials should be made to the Perpetual Education of the LDS Church.
