Lena Tomlinson, 97, joined her Lord Monday, Feb. 13, 2006 at the Payson Care Center in Payson.
She was born in Tecumseh, Oklahoma Aug. 11, 1908. Lena was a former resident of Seminole, Texas and later retired in Overgaard. Her last six years, she was a resident of the Payson Care Center.
As a young girl, she made a life commitment to follow Jesus. That commitment was reflected in her love of God and His word, the Bible. That word flowed into her marriage, with her boys, and with all the people that surrounded her. She spent her lifetime as a homemaker, baking for others in need of encouragement. She was a Pink Lady and a Sunday school teacher. She mentored many young women. The friendships she made lasted a lifetime. Her positive attitude brought smiles to everyone she met.
While in the care center, down to her last day, she was ministering to the residents and staff. She would sit up with the dying, help others to their rooms, and lend an ear of encouragement to all. You would usually see her leading a line of wheelchairs to meals and activities. Lena lived a long and full life and will be dearly missed. Her desire is that you do not remember her, but that you would come to know her Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law (whom she called her daughters) Zane and Nancy of Cocoa, Fla., Dane and Betty of Kingman, Charles and Diane of Overgaard, Franz and Yvonne of Alpine; her nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Lena was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, B. William Tomlinson.
Arrangements are under the direction of Norvel Owens Mortuary in Flagstaff, (928) 774-2211.
