Lee Roy J. Heffner, 95, died Thursday, March 30, 2006, in Mesa.
Mr. Heffner was born in Ninnekah, Okla., March 30, 1911 to the late Samuel Allison and Pearle Mae Harris Heffner. He helped organize a mission called "Life for India" in the villages of South India and had been involved with them since 1967. He also took many mission trips to Mexico helping the doctors with their supplies. A very active lay-member of the First Baptist Church in Sunland, Calif., he later served as Director of Grounds for the First Baptist Church in Thermal, Calif. for 9 ? years.
After working with Lockheed for many years, he retired in 1975. Mr. Heffner married his sweetheart, Ruthalie Wayman June 29, 1933, in Edmond, Okla. and they most recently celebrated their 72nd anniversary. He was a member of New Hope Christian Fellowship in Show Low.
Mr. Heffner is survived by his wife, Ruthalie Heffner of Show Low; one son, Dave Heffner and his wife Denise of Kennesaw, Ga.; one daughter, Margaret Brown and her husband Pastor Tom Brown of Show Low; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, James T. Heffner in 1972, and two sisters, Doris Giffin and Elnora Hakel.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 6, at New Hope Christian Fellowship at their meeting place, The S.D.A. Church on the corner of 8th and Whipple in Show Low. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 5 at Owens Mortuary in Show Low.
Interment will be in the Show Low Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Building Fund of New Hope Christian Fellowship, PO Box 1831, Show Low, AZ 85902.
