Marilyn ‘Gi-Gi’ Crawford Stateham 1935 - 2010
Marilyn “Gi-Gi” Crawford Stateham, resident of Cottonwood, Arizona died in her home on June 18, 2010 after a lengthy battle with bone cancer. She was the daughter of the late Virginia Cannon and Murray Laftin Crawford and was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 4, 1935.
At age 9 her family moved to New Orleans, Louisiana and resided there until 1967. Gi-Gi attended Metairie Park County day school and SMU. Her artistic career began at the Times Picayune art department followed by employment at Krauss, D.H. Holmes and Godchaux’s. She met her late husband Joe in New Orleans and married in 1969, and shortly afterwards moved to Arizona.
Gi-Gi was a member of the Northern Arizona Water Color Society and the El Valle Art Association. Her prolific 40-year career included works in oil, watercolor, and pastels and was a dedicated teacher and mentor to young artists. She received numerous awards and her works were recognized nationally.
Survivors include her brother, Dennis Cannon Crawford and his wife, Madeleine; two nephews, Keith Crawford and his wife, Elizabeth and their son, Edmund and Mark Crawford his wife Kimberly and their sons Leland and Evan; her niece, Lesley Crawford Costner and her husband Scott; numerous cousins and dear friends in the art community. The Northern Arizona Watercolor Society or a charity of your choice. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2010, at Mountain View United Methodist Church, 901 S. 12th Street, Cottonwood, AZ.
