Thompson’s Valley West Funeral Chapel Goodyear, Arizona SANFORD G. HERTZ Lieutenant Colonel Sanford G. Hertz, U.S. Army (Ret.), 75, of Goodyear died June 4, 2010 at Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center. LTC Hertz graduated from West Virginia University in 1956. He was stationed in the office of the Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon after serving one tour of duty in Korea and 2 tours in Vietnam. He was the last battalion commander to leave Vietnam in 1973 when peace talks resulted in an agreement to slowly phase out American troops and to release American POWs. LTC Hertz is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Joyce Robertson Hertz; his daughters, Stefanie G. Hertz and Jenifer A. Hertz Jester; his son-in-law, Jason R. Jester; and his granddaughters, Sela Rachelle, Megan Lee, Abigail Ann, and Lily Marie. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sanford G.
