Rex Weldon Owens
Rex Weldon Owens peacefully transcended to Heaven on June 17, 2010, surrounded by the love and presence of his four children.
Rex was born Dec. 13, 1922, in Dillard, Okla.

He enlisted in the U.S. Maritime Services (Merchant Marines/ Coast Guard) in February 1942 and saw service in the Mediterranean, Middle East, North Africa, Italy, North Atlantic, England, Holland, the Pacific, Philippines, Malaysia and China. He participated in the invasion of Normandy.
After his service in World War II, he married the love of his life, Doris Janet Davis, and resided and raised their four children in Pecos, Texas.
Rex was a retired electrical construction engineer with Sterns Rogers and a vocational archeologist, living in numerous states throughout his beloved country. Rex made numerous archeology discoveries in the Pecos, Texas, area and donated the artifacts to the Pecos Museum.
While living in Pima, he discovered and excavated the Owens-Colvin archeological site and donated all of his studies, artifacts and excavations to the Thatcher Museum.
Rex was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Davis Owens; and grandson, Wesley Edward Owens. He is survived by his son, Rex Edward Owens (Skip); daughters, Janet Owens-Severdia, Carol Owens and Melanie Owens-Root; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many treasured relatives and friends.
He will always be remembered for his dynamic personality and his witty intellect.
Graveside services, with military honors, will be conducted at 10 a.m., Friday, June 25, at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix.
The family requests donations be made in his name to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ, or The American Lung Association, 102 W. McDowell Rd., Phoenix
