Dr. Joseph F. Callerame, born to Pauline and Alphonse Callerame in Rochester, N.Y., on Feb. 20, 1936, passed away unexpectedly at his home Thursday evening, Aug. 27, 2009.
Dr. Callerame attended Purdue University, where he was a member of the ROTC and University of Rochester. Following college, Joe served in the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of 2nd lieutenant. Dr. Callerame went on to become a chemical engineer. During his career, he authorized many scientific patents and was a great contributor to his field of engineering and chemistry. Dr. Callerame was a widely recognized material expert in the field of chemical engineering and his teachings are quoted and cited throughout hundreds of patents, including many of his own.
Throughout his lifetime, Dr. Callerame devoted much of his time to community service. He was a devoted husband and father; he was known by many, loved by many and will be missed by many.
Joe is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Lou Callerame; sons, Allen Callerame of Rochester, N.Y., Kevin Callerame of Baton Rouge, La., James Callerame of Kansas City, Mo., Brian Callerame of Lake Havasu City, Keith Callerame of Chicago, Ill.; daughter, Pamela Waychoff of Peoria; and eight grandchildren, Marcos Callerame, Marissa and Michael Waychoff, Keegan and Chloe Callerame, Han Callerame and Joe and Jack Callerame.
Services for Dr. Callerame will be held on Monday at Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church. Rosary will be said at 10 a.m. with Mass beginning at 10:30 a.m. Father Mike Ashibuogwu will offer words of comfort and assurance. A reception will be held following Mass at the Holy Family Parish Center at Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church.
