The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 04/04/2006 Edward L. Sumwalt, 86, of Show Low, died March 29, 2006 after a massive stroke at Navapache Regional Medical Center with his daughter, son-in-law and grandson at his bedside. He was born in Farmland, Indiana to Harry F. Sunwalt and Myretta (McWilliams) Sumwalt but lived most of his life in San Diego, Calif. He served in the military during World War II and retired from Convair Aircraft Co. in 1984. He moved to Tucson in 1989 and then moved to Show Low in 2001. He is survived by his daughter, Dina Simpson (Rob), and most beloved grandson, Shawn; two sons Larry Sumwalt (Ruth) of Muncie, Ind., Gary Sumwalt of Canada; and four brothers Thomas E. Sumwalt (Helen) of Valley Spring, Calif., Donald L. Sumwalt (Rosie) of Hartford City, Ind., Joseph F. Sumwalt (Virginia) of Warren, Ind., Max E. Sumwalt (Betty) of Muncie, Ind., two sisters Mildred (Mimi) of Coppock Fort Wayne, Ind., Harriet E. Andersen (Harry) of Sun City West. He is also survived by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernie; son, Ernie; his parents; two brothers James Sumwalt of Fort Wayne, Ind., Frederick (Rev. FA) Sumwalt of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and one sister, Barbarta J. Sumwalt of Hartford City, Ind. He will be cremated and his ashes will be taken to the ocean in California where Bert and Ernie were taken.
