MACVITTIE, Jack S. (Grandpa Jack)


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 04/11/2006 Jack S. MacVittie "Grandpa Jack," a well-known resident of Pinetop has passed to eternal rest. Jack was born in Niagra Falls, N.Y. Oct. 27, 1923, to Roy S. and Ruth MacVittie. Jack entered the Army Air Corps, at the age of 19 and served 22 years through WWII, and two tours in Viet Nam. His service in the Air Force brought him to Chandler where he retired and then worked in management for Spreckels Sugar for 15 years. He eventually built his beloved cabin in Pinetop where he finished his life. Jack belonged to several organizations including the Air Force Sgt. Assoc., White Mtn. VFW Post 9907, the Everex Alumni Assoc. and St. Mary's Catholic Church of Pinetop. Jack, a big volunteer, was a member of the Pinetop-Lakeside Transportation Board. He also was a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. He worked with two generations of Blue Ridge school children while volunteering for the BRUSD where all the kids called him "Grandpa Jack." A big football enthusiast, he loved watching the Yellow Jackets and college games. He is survived by his brother, Joe MacVittie in N.Y.; sons, Michael and Mark MacVittie of Arizona, Pat MacVittie of Ill.; two grandchildren amd six great-grandchildren. Jack will be laid to rest along his beloved route to the Valley. Arrangements were handled by Black's Mortuary of Show Low. Light a memory candle at www.jackmacvittie.us-memorials.com.
