HANCOCK, Joseph


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 04/14/2006 Joseph Hancock, 80, died March 17, 2006. He was born Nov. 14, 1925 in Show Low to Levi Joseph and Arvilla McNeil Hancock. He married Dorsey Parker June 1, 1947 in Clay Springs. He lived there and in Snowflake before moving to Springfield, Ore. in 1948. Hancock served in the Army during WWII, seeing action in Tokyo. He worked in sawmills in Arizona, and for the Eugene Water and Electric Board while the Walterville canal was dug. He had a private fire wood business and owned a commercial fishing boat. He retired in 1990 after 40 years with Weyerhauser, where he worked as a head sawyer. He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Regina Love of Springfield, Ore.; two-brothers, Herbert Hancock and James Lewis, both of Gilbert; five sisters, Joyce Kear of Show Low, Edith Davis of Winslow, Jewel Bliss of South Carolina, Mary Lewis and Jan Hellyer; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday, March 23 at the Latter-day Saints Chapel on Market Street in Springfield, Ore. Burial was held at the Mount Vernon Cemetery Buell Funeral Chapel in Springfield, Ore. handled arrangements.
