Donald L. Barnes
Don passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at the Arizona Heart Hospital in Phoenix at the age of 74. He was born Dec. 11, 1935, in Medina, N.Y., to Pete and Lillian Barnes, and grew up in North Tonawanda, N.Y.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Duane; and grandson, Alex Irizarry.
Don is survived by his wife, Venita; son, David (Susie); daughters, Julie (Mark) Nulty, Jessica (Dan) Schmidt, Valerie (Jim) Clemen, Linda Wisniewski, Tina Barnes and Laura (Ed) Christ. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Alyson, Wyatt, Ethan, John, Stacy, Tasha, Calib, Nathan, Robert, Melissa, Danielle, Jason, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Britney, Alexandra and James. Don also has 17 great-grandchildren.
After graduating from North Tonawanda High School, Don joined the Navy. He worked at various jobs until he went to work for H.K. Ferguson Construction and Engineering. He worked at various construction jobs around the U.S. for 29 years until his retirement in June of 1998. Don and Venita moved to Valle Vista where he enjoyed spending time with his special girl, Alyson, and golfing with the Men's Club, Patriots and Bandits. He also loved to go to the "River."
"Duck" will be missed by his family and friends, but we're sure he's hitting them long and straight in heaven.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, at the Valle Vista Clubhouse, 9686 N. Concho Drive.
