LAWRENCE, Glenn

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 04/21/2006 Glenn Lawrence, 77, died peacefully April 16, 2006 at Bannon Springs Ranch in Vernon. He was born in Big Flat, Arkansas June 29, 1928. He was the first-born child to James and Artia Farris Lawrence. His family moved to Colorado in the 1930's but he always said he was "Just an old Arkie Boy." Glenn served in the United States Army as a Military Policeman with the 805th Aviation Engineer Battalion in the Panama Canal Zone. After his discharge from the Army he returned to Colorado, and worked in the mines there, then owned and operated a tree trimming business. Later he relocated to Merced, Calif. There he became the Superintendent of the Merced County Cemetery District. He loved his job and took great pride in his work. He retired after 25 years of service. Upon retiring he moved to Lake Havasu City. Glenn was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Eagles and the Elks. He was an active member through the years. From flipping pancakes at fundraisers, to the seriousness of the offices he held, he loved it all. He had a green thumb, especially for beautiful roses and grew them everywhere he lived. He loved gambling and honky tonk, and if there was a party you could be sure he was in the middle of it. Glenn touched many lives along his journey; leaving smiles, chuckles and warm memories as gifts to those he met. Glenn is survived by his children, Larry Lawrence of Denver, Colo., and Carol (John) Murphy of Linden; grandchildren, Misti (Justin) Schubel of Linden, and Shay Lopez of Show Low; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Cleo Wells of Grand Junction, Colo., Agnes Houston of Ore. and Evelene Mund of Conn. He was preceded in death by his long time companion and wife of seven years, Dian Bolte-Lawrence; his brothers, Gene Lawrence and Cleon Lawrence; and his sister, Lucene Gram. Graveside services have been held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to RTA Hospice of the White Mountains 1789 W. Commerce Drive, Lakeside, AZ 85929 or the National Alzheimer's Association. Owens Mortuary of Show Low handled the arrangements. For those who have special memories and would like to send private condolences, or sign an online guest book, visit www.owensmortuary.com.
