CONTRERAS, Consuelo

Consuelo Valles Contreras, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, passed away on Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at the age of 93. She is preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Rosita Valles; her husband of 49 years, Gilbert C. Contreras; three brothers, Eduardo, Edmundo and Manuel and sisters, Refugio Herrera and Guadalupe Ballesteros. She is survived by brothers, Raul (Maria) and Jorge (Ernestina) Valles. Consuelo was born in Morenci, Arizona, raised and educated in Cananea, Sonora and moved to Tucson when she married. Consuelo and Gilbert owned and operated Gilbert's Market in South Tucson for many years. She was also a store manager for Circle K at Five Points. She will always be remembered for her love of life and family and her strong work ethic. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 21, 2010 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at BRING'S MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 236 South Scott Avenue, with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Monday, February 22, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Santa Cruz Church. Interment will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Santa Cruz Church Restoration Fund. (Obituary published in Arizona Daily Star, 02/19/2010.)
