Errol Goheen Brown, 91, died April 6, 2006.
He was born Dec. 10, 1914 at Eagar to Benjamin and Myrtle Greer Brown. He married Marilla Mineer, June 10, 1935. Marilla passed away Dec. 23, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Louise Hancock, Vermelle Cowley, Elzetta Dewitt; two brothers, Myrlan and Benjamin; and two grandsons, Evan M. Hamblin and Keith Duke.
He is survived by daughters, Francine B. Hamblin, Sherry Ann (Donald) Eddy, SueZetta Whited, Margerite (Tina) Smith; two sons, Errol G. Jr. (Myrna) and Timothy Jon; sister-in-law, Marilyn Holt Brown; 18 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Errol grew up in Eagar and St. Johns, graduating from St. Johns High School in 1932. He attended Brigham Young University from 1934 through 1938.
He helped start the Y Press Department, and was manager 1937-38. He was recognized for his work in color lithography and early offset printing in Utah and Arizona.
He started two newspapers: The Apache County Independent News in St. Johns (now the White Mountain Independent) and Southern Utah News -Advertiser, in the Kanab and St. George area, now The Spectrum and The Daily News. He also owned and published the Lake Powell Chronicle in Page, and the southern Utah News, Kanab.
Errol spent his lifetime in newspaper publishing and printing, dating from 1927, in both letterpress and lithographic process. He won 34 state and national awards with his newspapers, and five in printing and lithography.
Graveside services were held for the immediate family in the Kanab City Cemetery, under the direction and grateful help of Mosdell Mortuary.
